Maytag gas oven popping/short cycling - model MGR5729ADW

Hey novice Samurai,

I've got a maytag natural gas oven that is not getting even temperatures (poor baking results).  The main symptom is that it is short cycling and "popping" as in I can hear the bake element lighting every few seconds to minutes when set to temp (anywhere from 350+).

I've checked door gasket and hinges and both appear to be in fine shape.

My first guess is thermostat, but would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

paul

Most likely you have a weak bake ignitor. If you have a clamp on amp meter you could check amps at he ignitor. Gas safety valve opens between 3.2 and 3.6 amps.
