Gas Dryer 796.91072310 Drum will not stop turning. Everything works as it should on this Dryer except when the clothes are dry or the timer shuts off and the lights on the Control Board goes out the drum keeps turning with no heat. If you open the door the Dryer will stop as it should Drum and all or if you unplug it it will stop. Other than that the Drum runs all the time power is to the Dryer.

If it is unplugged from the wall outlet then you plug it in the Drum starts turning even though you have not pushed the power button on the Control Board. The Drum will always stay turning. You can push the Power button and all the lights on the control board will light up and you can set it to what ever you want and it will work as it should until its time to shut off then the Drum will keep running.

Any ideas or help on this would be great.

Thank You.

Sounds to me like the contacts on motor relay has soldered in a closed position. This would hold power onto the motor continuously. (Note that the cicuit is opened when the door is openand the motor shuts off.) The relay is found on the Power Control Board. You can verify a closed relay with a simple continuity check using a multimeter. I am not sure which relay is the motor relay but you should be able to find the wiring diagram and locate it easily enough.

But this is easy one- you have a failed PCB.

Thank you. I will check that relay out if I can fine the right one. I was not sure if it was the PCB or if there are contacts on the Motor somewhere that could be Closed.

If any contacts on the motor were closed it would only continuously run when you turned on and it would continue to run after the cycle is complete. Once you open the circuit (like opening the door) it would not 'restart' itself. For the motor to run, the power comes from the board. No power from board- no run, even if the contacts on the motor were closed. :D

These dryer boards are known for this problem, I second Koi's motion.
