I just tried to install a replacement gasket I got from repairclinic.com (thanks for quick shipping!) and I find that the gasket is quite different from the original and the 1st replacement gasket I installed more than a decade ago.  The original gasket had a flap that covered the screws, and this new one doesn't.  I sort of got it to fit, but I had to poke holes through the gasket for each screw.  The door does not stay shut by itself, so for the time being I've taped it shut after turning the fridge back on.

So is this Whirlpool's idea of improving replacement parts?  Or did I get the wrong part?  Or is there some way of installing it that I couldn't figure out?

Part is repairclinic.com item # 820944 for Amana TQ18RBW.

RepairClinic Item #820944 | Whirlpool OEM Part #WP12550109Q = correct part

I, too, found that the replacement didn't have holes for the screws. Original part is NLA, so this is a substitute. Use hair dryer to soften gasket so you can mold it into shape to fit. Careful not to melt it..

The original (and 1st replacement) gasket was magnetic.  I'm replacing the current gasket because the magnetic strip is exposed across the top of the door.

The replacement gasket does not cling to a screwdriver blade whereas the old one does.  Is it possible that I got the wrong part?

Item #: 820944
Description: Door Gasket
Price: $105.75
Quantity: 1
Availability: In Stock

This transaction will appear as "RC *REPAIRCLINIC.COM 8002692609" on your credit card/bank statement.

There was no tag or part # marking on the gasket itself and it was packed with a generic note to use a hair dryer.

if yours does not have the magnetic in it it will not seal correctly, wrong part or manufacturing defect I would say. There are companies out there that actually make your gasket for you, you must give the size and use a chart for type of gasket, google it and you should have plenty of resources.
