Yeah....... See exclusions 9 and 12:

9 Damage to or failure of this appliance, including discoloration or surface rust, resulting from accident, alteration, abuse, misuse or use for other than its intended purpose.

12 Damage to or failure of parts or systems resulting from unauthorized modifications made to this appliance.

If I were trying to dodge a job I didn't want I'd bring these up.

What's the ballpark labor price for compressor replacement? If I decide to not go the warranty route or if I'm unable to go the warranty route?

Every area is different, If you caught me on a slow week the price would be lower than during a busy week. You never know.

Have you determined how old it is or when it was purchased? Looks like the warranty would only cover the compressor itself and not installation or diagnosis.

I carefully installed a bullet piercing valve because I thought r134a level might be low).

If you were not lg or sears authorized you just ended any warranty at that moment. Every company and most people are all about getting out of accountability so everyone looks for a reason NOT to do a system job. Doesn’t matter how good you are or how much you know , it is their ticket out .  Just my opinion, ?

Yes, that's correct just the part would be covered, which is about $240 including tax. FC75LANE

Labor looks like it would be $250-300 from what I've seen online ballpark.

The fridge is not an entry level fridge, so it may be worth the repair. The rest of it seems fine and I can replace most other things other than what needs brazing.

Do my ballpark labor figures above seem pretty close?

You’d be surprised how easy it is to braze copper and copper to steel with the correct equipment and supplies. Maybe you know a plumber with an acetylene torch you can borrow. Not many brazes to do to replace a compressor. Again, call 6 different companies and you’ll get 6 different prices, call in a month and you might get 6 more.

I’ve seen torch setups go for around $75 on craigslist, even seen a few in the free section. Another $100 in brazing rods and flux and some scrap copper to practice on and you might end up in the sealed system business.
