Kenmore Dryer 110.64972300 Not Heating

Recommended Posts

I have a Kenmore dryer model number 110.64972300 that is not heating. Here are the steps that I have already taken.

1. Checked all possibilities related to no heat for dryers, including thermal fuses, thermostats, and heating element.

2. Replaced timer as I thought that would be the only other possibility.

Since replacing the timer, now the dryer won't even start without holding in the start switch. Before replacing the timer, the dryer ran on its own, with no heat. Now there is no heat AND it will not stay running without holding in the start switch in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a heat circuit that goes thru the moter too,  same switch can cause the other problem also.

Is that the circuit board that is located next to the timer?

No, it is the start switch on the moter

Evaappliance, did you look up this dryer to see what they are working on?   This is NOT just the standard basic Whirlpool dryer like you see most of the time.

The timer is almost never the problem on these models.

The "Even Heat Control Broad", (the one next to the timer), and the "Motor Relay" and "Heater Relay" are the most common problems with these.

Xman1, do you have the tech sheet that is in the console area?   If not you need to find one somewhere - it will contain info on how to enter a diagnostic mode and check components.

The problem with the motor only running when you hold the start switch down is most likely a bad motor relay.  The motor relay and heater relay are both the same and can be swapped if you don't know how to use a meter to check the electromagnet coil on the relays and how to check the voltage going to the relays.   Might have just happened to die at this time or you didn't hook something back up right when you changed the timer.

The board could be the main problem not sending the 48 VDC to the  heater relay and motor relay - if that is the case then a new or rebuilt board will fix both problems.  The board controls the 48 VDC to the motor relay and the heater relay at the correct times and also controls the main timer advance motor.

The no heat problem could be a bad heater relay or the even heat control board next to the timer.

Looks like there is a possibility that these boards are no longer available and may have to be sent in for repair, (I'm pretty sure you can find new, used or rebuilt ones quite readily on Ebay,  (The last one I purchased was a rebuilt one thru CoreCentric Solutions on Ebay).
