Maytag washer won't stop filling with water. I haven't replaced the pressure switch and/or hose yet, however, as along with not stopping, it also doesn't start the wash cycle. I can hear the washer hum, but nothing happens. It does spin and drain, however.

Check to make sure the hose from the tub to the pressure switch is clear and not blocked by schmutz. I prefer to blow from the pressure switch down so you can ensure that the connection itself is not plugged up. Also the top is most likely the cleaner end to put your mouth on. Once you’ve proven that path is clear you can blow into the pressure switch and see if it switches as it should.

Does it stop filling when u turn off machine or do you have to shut off at wall valves?

It stops filling when I turn off the machine, which indicates to me that it is not the valve but instead the pressure switch. The hose itself was disconnected when I acquired the washer and it looks pretty gross, but that's a visual inspection only of the exterior of the hose. I haven't removed it altogether to see if it is clogged from the inside. That should be easy enough to determine and replace if necessary.

However, is this contributing to my no wash cycle? Does the washer not click into the wash phase because it thinks it still needs to fill? I would think it is unrelated, though, because if I move the timer to a wash cycle, it stops filling, but doesn't do anything except hum along.

The pressure switch must be satisfied to allow the machine to agitate. Do you have both cold and hot water hooked up to the machine? Does it fill with either hot or cold water?

Also the timer will not advance until the pressure switch is satisfied.

OK. That makes sense. I was moving the timer to the next cycle manually, not letting it go on its own. It does fill with either cold or hot water when connected.

Problem solved. I blew out the hose and put it back on and everything works. Nothing came out of the hose (that I saw), but it seemed to have done the trick. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Do at least one load with bleach and hot water. Don't leave it running until you know it isn't going to overflow again.

I ran a cold water and a hot water, but I'll do it again with bleach. Thanks.
