Hello -

I am receiving a E1 error code on my LG LDF8072ST.

Background - I installed a new garbage disposal yesterday.  Wanted to test the water connections to it from the dishwasher so I started a short cycle.  I powered off, started another cycle thinking that it would do a drain before a fill.  It didn't.  The second fill overflowed the washer.  I powered off, powered on and did a manual drain using the steam-delicate and normal buttons.  The dishwasher drained, no leaks on my garbage disposal.  I thought all was well.

A few hours later, a load of dishes was washed.  Somewhere into the wash cycle, the dishwasher started making beeping sound, all leds blinked and E1 flashed on the display.  This would not stop.  I tried to push the power button, but it stayed in this state.  During this time the drain motor was also trying to pump, but no water was coming out.  After a few minutes, flipped the breaker to shut off power.  I turned back on, the condition continued.  Blinking LEDS, E1 error, beeping, pump trying to pump.  I added water to the dishwasher manually to see what would happen.  The pump kept pumping, a valve did open and drain water.  After it seemed to mostly drain, the pump kept running, no more water would drain.

From there, I tried everything, read all I could about the E1 error on LG LDF8072ST (not much stuff on google for this).    All I have found is something that there might be water in the bottom of the unit which must dry.  Im not sure how to figure out if there is .  i cant get my hand all the way in the thing I think the sites refer to however, when I put a finger in, it was not wet, keeping in mind I have very limited access underneath the dishwasher, simply coming in from the front.

I did remove the drain pump.  The Impeller looks fine.  Since the pump is removing water if aI do a manual fill, it would seem that the pump is able to pump water.

Summary of things I did:

  • Checked Impeller in drain pump, looks good, not damage, no clogs
  • tried to put finger in pan I think the internet referred to where there might be moisture, did not feel water
  • Checked that water can drain through new garbage disposal
  • checked that hose is at least 20" in height to the disposal drain

Any ideas?  your help is very appreciated!  Even if I could get the unit into test mode, maybe that would be helpful but it is stuck in this E1 error mode.  As soon as  I power on, blinking lights, E1 error, beeping and pump runs, with nothing to drain.

I would remove the dishwasher, tip it completely on its front onto some waiting towels and see what comes out. I'll bet water got to the flood sensor when the overflow happened. Then return it to the upright position and test. If you still get the error, wait a day and try it again.

Did you remember to remove the knockout on the new disposer where the dishwasher drain hose attaches?

Hello - Yes, the knockout was removed.  Thank you!

Water entered Overflow Bowl...which has electrodes.

This triggered Emergency Drain.

Drain Motor runs continuosly...until water in "bowl" evaporates.

Best to disconnect power for 24 to 72 hours...until water has evaporated.

Dishwasher will return to normal operation.

Not my favorite feature/design...known for being an occassional nuisance.

Hello -

My Dishwasher is working again.  Thank you for all the feedback, help and clarifications.

I used a fan aimed at the bottom of the dishwasher (with the plate removed) to help dry the overflowed water that must have been the problem.  I waited an extra day because I didnt want to pull the thing out.  It took 3 and a half days to dry.  If it happens to you I would recommend pulling it like John63 suggested!  Do it on day one because doing dishes by hand is not fun!
