Frigidaire Dryer loud noise after replacing glides and felt Model FDE436RES1

Recommended Posts

The glides had broken on my dryer, and the lower felt was rust colored, so I replaced both of them. I have done this several times without a problem. This time, when I put everything back together and started the dryer, it started to emit a loud squeal that I can't pinpoint. Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this issue?

on that dryer ,most of the time squealing noises come from the rear bearing needing greased or replaced if wore to much

I will check that out. Thank you.

yes, rear bearing wearing out is common on these, it comes as a kit(5303281153) with the steel ball, a plastic bearing, a holder, a ball bearing to act as a ground, etc Don't just buy the plastic bearing. It could also be the idler pulley.

I bought the rear bearing kit (5303281153) and replaced it. The idler pulley had a crack in the wheel, so I bought and replaced the wheel as well. Unfortunately, the squeal continues. I do appreciate the information.

Something in the blower, run it without the belt hooked up and see if it's the motor

When I ran it without the belt, the noise was gone.

Does that mean that the motor needs to be replaced?

Just the opposite, that means the motor is most likely fine

Was the rear bearing worn? Did you grease up the new one?

The rear bearing was slightly worn, and I did grease up the new bearing when I installed it.

At this point i would take it apart again and go over everything with i fine tooth comb.

I will do that first thing in the morning thanks for your help

Sounds like drum bearing may not be seated in bearing cup.

You inserted little ball bearing in cup, correct?

Yes, I did insert the ball bearing in the cup. Luckily, I had a helper who was able to hold the piece in the back while I placed the cup with the ball bearing in the front.

Before I took the dryer apart again, I noticed that the idler pulley and the shaft coming off the motor were really dirty. Once I cleaned them off, the squeal stopped. Thanks again for your help, everyone.

Yes, that can be tricky without a helper.

A spot of grease holds ball in cup.

But still tricky reaching around cabinet.

That is a great tip! I will do that next time.
