No loud spraying and churning sound like normal. Just a hum, a somewhat grinding / subdued pump noise, and  a pouring water sound. Arms turn freely by hand. Arms turn while running, at least slowly ( arms move from my setting them  to East-West & turning back on midcycle for a few seconds).

No "Intake / Drain" error light.

Can I get at the pump in the base while it is built into the cabinets still ??

( will have to lift the counter top otherwise ! )

Assuming your talking about the drain pump, Yes you can get at the pump in the base.   Take of the kick plate cover. Disconnect the electrical. Don't forget there is a locking tab that holds the drain pump in place. Once you have depressed the tab , Start turning the pump counter clockwise about 90 degrees to remove it.

The main wash pump can only be removed by taking the whole unit out from it's installation. Put a small glass (tumbler) right side up in every corner and see how much water gets in after ten minutes of washing. If they don't fill you may have a clogged impeller or a blocked in take. I assume you took the filter out and gave it a thorough cleaning.

The 800 series are old machines, the circulation motors sometimes get stuck.  You can purchase a tool from Miele to attempt to free it if it's stuck.  Remove the microfilter and insert the tool into the motor impeller through the slot in the sump and turn the tool.  You can Miele at 800-999-1360 to order the tool.

Plenty of hot water, and it drains okay.

The "circulation motor" in the base has a little impeller & ball valve ?  It had some corn silk etc wrapped around it, but spins freely before & after cleaning.

By " filter ", is that only the fine mesh screen on the bottom, or is there another filter somewhere ?

I'd like to get a service manual too.

No, that's the drain pump motor.  There's one one filter, in the sump.  The one you (should) take out to clean on a regular basis.
