Dear Fellow Appliantologists,  this may be a longshot, but I bought (used) a very-cool 1980-90s tele to replace my crapping-out cheapo. This is an old-fashioned, very  classic, solid, hang-on-the-wall dude,  not a cordless. It is made by "Cetis Inc" of Colorado Springs, CO, if that makes a difference. The "IC" code is 3179-9319X---series #: ZX1403027427.

Curiously, The line-feed port on its' base was  'male', connected by typical Red/Green wires so I spliced in a 'female'    When I plug into it, I can hear a background dial tone, but there is a concurrent whistle-wine, kind of like 'feedback' too.   Any ideas as to how to get it to work properly?    Thanks for your help   :o))

Dear CTG51 and Thirstytech,  Thanks for your replies to my 'phone problem.'  Appreciate your taking the time.

I have one more extraneous question: my oldest phone (the one Im trying to replace) is NOT a cordless. On Wednesday evening,  my power went and just this eve, friday now it is back on. I was actually talking on the phone when the power went off and for all of Thursday I heard phone rings which I didnt answer, and I also would pick up the receiver periodically and hear a dial tone. But Thurs night, I was intending to call the power Company again, and, lo, there was no dial tone !  This is academic, I realize, but it has perplexed me. Should you be inclined, thanks for your thoughts.
