Amana #NTW4516FW Top Load Washer (current model)

Hello Guys:

Brand new here...

I'm in the market for a washer for the first time in MANY years, and would prefer to buy a newer model with a manual or fixed full-level water setting.  Best I can tell, such models are no longer made, though some recent models can be modified to fill all the way by manipulating the water level control circuit.

I have found a possible candidate in an Amana (#NTW4516FW) which is the current model.  My question is whether the modification can be done on this particular model?

Apparently, the water level controls could be over-ridden on many of the recent HE Amana's and other basic Whirlpool built models. However, not sure if this is the case on this one since 2018 was supposedly a major model change for some models.  I have not been able to locate a schematic for this model, so there is my predicament.

If anyone has any knowledge of whether this hack works on the current basic Whirlpool products, or an actual schematic for Amana #NTW4516FW, I would be very grateful.  thanks, John

Hi  evaappliance,  I heard recently from a distributor that speed queen was having a lot of issues with the main ECU boards on the washers. Not just a couple of issues , a lot of faulty boards being replaced. Have you heard anything about that ?

Thanks for your reply evaappliance.

Yes, I know all about Speed Queen, but my understanding is that there was a recent model change, and the current models are unreliable as Darren noted above.

The basic Whirlpool-built models seem to be a good reliable platform overall, with the only real downfall being the HE presets, which a LOT of people seem to HATE and I have a feeling I will too.

If all else fails, I'll find a used washer. Maybe an older Speed Queen.  But it's worth it to me to figure out if one of these base models currently in production can be modified to run a full tub of water.

Again, any helpful info, or a schematic for Amana #NTW4516FW would be awesome   thanks!!

Not aware of any widespread board issues YET , lol !    But the model i gave you is the exact same running gear as the home machines were last year . Also no lid lock and no computer of any kind .  Trust me , check into it and you will see that the lwn432sp is the old design, but most home dealers will not have it or even know you can still get the old style.

I have not heard of this ,  so far i have only had one washer board and one dryer board to go out  since 2015 when they started using them in home laundry.   BUT i will keep my eyes open !

First time I have seen this Maytag model. Looks real good .  Whirlpools coin op washer ecu ‘s had alot of problems with the control boards in them also. They were real expensive control boards too.  With several substitutes for them.  I would like to know how good this Maytag washer works.  Hopefully it will have a better revamped control board in it.  Has any one seen one of these Maytag machines in motion ?  I would appreciate knowing your thoughts on it.

I think speed Queen will blow Maytags lid off. I don’t think you could compare the Two. EH!

New SQ didn't fair too well in his test with the 2017 model.

That’s interesting to hear lighthouse . I have been starting to feel the same way about Speed Queen. I have always told my customers to replace their 2-3 yr old Maytag branded and whirlpool branded vertical washers that keep crapping the bed , with Speed Queen vertical washers.   I still believe that the speed queen version is a better built machine but I think they have lowered  their standards slightly in my opinion  for the past several yrs. combine that with customers who are ignorant on how to properly load and use their washers it is sometimes difficult to gauge why some models breakdown so quickly.
