I AM NOW BATTLING WITH A WASHER WELL KNOWN FOR BREAKING DOWN. HALF THE TIME IT WAS READING ERROR CODE UE WHICH MEANS IT WAS UNBALANCED AND THE OTHER HALF OF THE TIME THE CLOTHES WOULD BE SOAKED AS IF IT HADN'T EVEN GONE THROUGH A SPIN CYCLE AT ALL. THE MACHINE WAS PERFECTLY LEVEL AND THE LOAD ITSELF WASN'T UNBALANCED. I RAN THE MACHINE WITH NOTHING IN IT TO TRY AND SPIN OUT THE HORRIBLE SMELLING WATER STUCK IN IT AND EVEN EMPTY THE MACHINE WOULDN'T SPIN CORRECTLY. IT KEPT TURNING ONE DIRECTION A FEW TIMES AND THEN BACK THE OTHER DIRECTION . I GAINED ACCESS TO THE SERVICE MANUAL (https://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/content/pdfs/125528.pdf IF ANYONE NEEDS IT YOU CAN FIND IT HERE) AND CHECKED BOTH THE LOW AND HIGH SPEED SPIN MODES TO MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS CAPABLE OF SPINNING. BOTH FUNCTIONED.

SO, I REMOVED THE CABINET AND FOUND A TON OF RUST EVERYWHERE AT THE BACK OF THE WASHER TUB. I ALSO FOUND THAT WHEN MANUALLY TRYING TO SPIN THE TUB, SOMETHING WAS CAUSING THE WASHER ROTOR ASSEMBLY TO DRAG INSTEAD OF TURNING FREELY AS IT SHOULD. WHEN I REMOVED IT I FOUND THERE IS NO GREASE IN THE BEARING AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF PLAY WHICH IS ALLOWING THE ROTOR TO RUB AGAINST THE WASHER MOTOR STATOR.

MY QUESTION IS: IF I REPLACE THE BEARINGS, IS IT GOING TO FIX MY PROBLEM? BECAUSE I'M TIRED OF WASTING MONEY TRYING TO GET A WORKING WASH MACHINE FROM MACHINES THAT ARE PLAIN AND SIMPLY GARBAGE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

Do you still have the Kenmore?

If you're going to go to all the trouble of replacing the bearings, replace the tub also as the shaft is probably scored from the bad bearing. Personally I'm not sure it's worth the effort. I've rebuilt a couple for people who were attached to them or were under an extended warranty where the warranty company forced us to do it and they worked out ok.
