Speed Queen (ALLIANCE) Model #AWN542SP111TW01 clothes washer Serial #1208031015 worked fine until yesterday when:

1. The dial suddenly rotated freely whether in or out. Rather difficult engaging the back most part to engage dial selection;

2. Today the unit filled, washed, but would not spin out.  Only let out an audible grimace of what sounded like a stuck motor.

Removed front panel and all seems fine and free and no odd collections of lint and stuff or grease, etc.  That's it.

Q.  What is wrong here?

I fixed the no agitate problem and now have only the "free spinning dial" with which to contend.  Don't seem to have a disassembly manual so I must peruse the options. Unit is apart and  working save for the dial.  Suggestions?

One of the failures I'e had on the SQ timers is that they stop engaging and just turn freely, no clicking. Replace timer.

Thank you.  I suspected this and since I just saw your reply I thought it appropriate to thank you.  Plus you could use the kendo points!

...but I forgot to ask: How do I remove the dial (without breaking it off in the process)?

Answer:  Turn opposite the thread rotation (pitch).  That should do it!

Q:  How long, and how hard (Rockwell scale) is the pin that broke?

Q.  If known, what is the diameter of the pin?  It would save having to measure and that would get it back together in hours doing laundry (its JOB).

I saved one to dissect once but never got around to it so in tossed it. I just change them out and don't worry about repairing them.

I found the 3 pieces and measured them, inserted slightly thicker and stronger material, and reassembled.  It now works.

 Have had onlya fes that haove done this but yes the timer. I have repaird some fingers in the past, but not the  push pull parts.

Push/Pull part was easy, aligning it was a little more difficult, but it works and I did not have to:

1.  Order the wrong part and return it

2.  Wait for the delivery vehicle

3.  Shelve the project or make a customer wait (this only applies to repair people)

I was able to WASH clothes right away.  WIN WIN
