Returning guest presenter Aaron Wilson is back for another exciting discussion. This time, we'll be talking about...
The Science of CYA: How to Keep the Customer Safe, Document Your Work, and Not Get Sued
We take on a lot of liability as appliance repair techs, and that can get us into sticky situations whether we've done anything wrong or not. Aaron will be teaching us all about how to navigate this side of the trade.
We'll start by going over a tragic, real-world case study where a sloppy installation had lethal results, analyzing exactly how the installer's negligence caused this. From there, our scope will expand to what kind of safety precautions we should implement in our own work, both for the customer's sake and for our own.
But even if you do everything perfectly, there's still the famous "technician witch hunt." Well, we'll also talk about how to deal with that by thoroughly documenting your work and putting yourself beyond legal reproach.
A little about our guest, Aaron Wilson:
Aaron has been in the appliance repair trade for about 15 years, starting out by doing installations before moving on to bigger and better things. He worked for C&W Services as a Sub-Zero authorized servicer for a time and thereafter joined Mr. Appliance of Highland Park in the Dallas area, where he worked for years as the lead technician and field service manager. These days, he's making sure that all the appliances of everyone's favorite fried chicken place are in tip-top shape as the Quality and Performance Consultant for the southwest branch of Chick-fil-A. In addition, he has taught many classes on refrigeration repair and advanced diagnostics, during which time he also developed training material for the soft skills side of things, which he is delighted to share with you. On top of all that he's a certified graduate of the Master Samurai Tech Academy, so he knows his stuff!

Samsung RS261MDRS, water dispensing issue

Water stopped dispensing mid-stream a week ago, the ice maker doesn’t produce ice since it isn’t getting water. Replaced the inlet valve, no dice. Tried three new filters, nothing. It won’t dispense with the filter removed, either. It isn’t frozen. The water supply line has been checked and functions fine, pressure same as always. I may have lost my mind trying to figure out what is wrong with it.

Would it be better to just install an inline filter instead of trying to mess with replacing the filter housing assembly?

Bought this garbage fridge in 2012 and it’s already needed several repairs (compressor, coils, ice maker, etc. etc.).

Is the valve  even getting power? This needs checked before moveing on. Go in this order water supply > Control(power) > valve(S) >then  filter > tubeing > Tank in no realorder.

so 1st water to fridge?

second power to valve?

Valve is getting power, control board functioning fine.

Then you have valve tubeing  filter tank etc.   you have replaced valve so  i assume if you dis connect the outlet adn hit the button you get water right?

Out of the valve it goes  to filter? Or is it before? Either way  either. Pull off a connector and run the water to see if it gets there,  if it is. Move down the line and retest, if not move upstream and retest.

You can usulally pick up a JOHN GUEST fitting and bypass the filter, or the tank or both  to test.

SOmething is clogged frozen pinched etc.   go from valve  to the next and so forth. Where the water stops is your problem

I have a customer with the same issue. The damper door failed and the entire unit turned into one big side by side freezer. After replacing the damper door and the fridge thawed , the water filter started leaking and filled the fridge up with water until it started leaking out of the door. I reinstalled the filter ( it had backed off somehow)and the leak stopped but now there is no water coming out of the water dispenser, and the ice maker won't fill with water either.. The solenoid valves are getting power when the water dispenser button is pressed and when the icemaker calls for water.

I removed the filter again and found a tiny piece of plastic shaped like an X had fallen out. I looked inside of the filter housing ( the part the filter twists into) and saw a part shaped the same was inside of it.

I did more troubleshooting and found that I have water to the filter but none coming out of it. I am going to replace the filter case and I should have the issue  resolved.
