Frigidaire fr56lf7jm0 freezer cold, refrigerator not

Recommended Posts

Frigidaire fr56lf7jm0 side-by-side, only keeping the refrigerator side at about 52 degrees F, freezer side is 0 degrees F.  Air flowing from the damper inlet measures near 0 as well. Air flow problem? Sounds like the evaporator fan is running and I feel cool air flowing from the damper, but not a lot - not sure how much flow to expect. how t troubleshoot? Any assistance appreciated.

FZ 0 is good news

look for frost buildup on back interior wall of freezer check entire wall. Scratch the wall with fingernail to see if a thin layer is forming on wall.

No, no ice buildup on rear wall of freezer.

Air flow issue.

1 Evap fan not blowing enough due to evaporator not defrosting, fan weak & not turning or not turning enough would need to remove back cover to verify these

2 damper not opening or blocked

3 return vent blocked with ice or debris

Thanks for all replies so far. Following up, first an additional question or two:

" 1 Evap fan not blowing enough due to evaporator not defrosting, fan weak & not turning or not turning enough would need to remove back cover to verify these  "

Back cover - Internal cover in freezer or rear external cover?

"3 return vent blocked with ice or debris"

Where is the return vent? I don't see anything in the refrigerator side which looks like one. Ditto on freezer side - where does the air flow into the damper and where does it return to the freezer?

Note: While trying to troubleshoot, I removed the left-hand upper refrigerator-side "control" housing, which contains the damper assembly. I didn't pull if completely out, afraid of damaging what I now know is a capillary tube feeding into the freezer side. I put everything back together and now the refrigerator side temp is consistently in mid-to upper 30's, rather than 50 degrees. Possible I jarred a sticking damper loose?

I tried to look up your model to see exactly where it was but the model number you provided does not come up on the sites that I checked. Return vent it low and on the wall between the 2 compartments. it may be partially concealed by a drawer.
