Frigidaire FRS6LR5EM2 Freezer Cold, Fridge Warm

Recommended Posts

I know this is a common issue, but I've checked the "usual" suspect components and am still unsure what the issue is.  The title says it all, but to reiterate :

  • Freezer temp is 0 degrees
  • Fridge temp is 50 degrees

The following have been checked and verified:

  • Evaporator coil is NOT frosted up
  • Evaporator fan is running, and is not noisy
  • Damper Control Door is NOT stuck closed.  While I've not seen it move when changing the fridge temp control, to ensure enough cold air was entering I removed the door spring and taped the door in the fully OPEN position.

Question 1:  Is there a heater in the fridge area to help eliminate moisture?  And if so, does the Adaptive Defrost Control Board control that heater?  If that were staying on, that could explain the issue.

Question 2:  Has anyone had experience (or success) repairing the ADC Board?  Poor solder joints, etc?

Any and all suggestions and help is appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

My answers, in order,   Yes, no, no, the moisture preventing heater can be on all the time...  question 2 not me but others may have.

Is the return duct blocked between the freezer and fresh food side toward the bottom?

Thanks for your responses,  it is appreciated.  Regarding the cold air return duct ... DOH!   I failed to event think about that being potentially blocked.

Forcing the the damper fully open, the fridge temp finally got down to 40, perhaps a little lower.  I'll double-check the air return vent and report back ASAP.

OK, another update ...

After 48 hours of the Damper Door being wide open, fridge temp is now down to 30 degrees.  The fridge temp "cold" control clicks when rotated so believe it's OK.  I've ordered a new Damper Assembly.  I'll submit another report after that's installed.

It would be possible to achieve this temperature with the damper door wide open even return vent is plugged. I would think that it would get even lower if the damper door was wide open and the return was open. Sometime ice will be inside the return & hard to see.

The vent was reported as clear, but I'm depending on a 3rd party to inspect (friend) as it's 45 miles away.  I'll double-check it myself when I go out there to replace the damper.  If it has ice in it, how should I clear it - just unplug and let it melt?  Thanks.

Damper Assembly resolved the matter.  My apologies for taking so long to update the forum.
