Whirlpool dryer LG6811XSW0 has a screw loose...

And it's rattling around somewhere in the drum. It's not inside the drum where the clothes go, but I can hear it climb and drop, climb and drop as the drum turns. What should I do to get it out?

It's  behind one of the drum baffles. They are held by screws on the outside of the drum.

Yep!

Sounds like a plan. Any hints on how to proceed? Are the baffles removable from above or does the drum have to be removed?

Remove the top and expose the drum . You will see screws now from front to them back of the drum that hold the drum baffles on. Remove the baffles  one at a time and clean them out thoroughly

Thanks, I'll do that and let you know how it turns out.

No joy. On my dryer the baffles are indentations pressed into the drum itself, so there are no removable parts to service.

You have probably already figured it out but there should always be at least one plastic fin/baffle that can be removed.

The older units like yours only have one removable fin and the other two are built into the drum.

Newer Whirlpool built dryers have three removable fins/baffles - usually two shorter and one taller.

I saw a picture of a newer drum with three and that confused me. You're right, my older dryer has one baffle. I removed it and found a half inch sphere of compressed lint. How a lint ball made so much noise amazes me, but I removed it and the noise is gone. Many, many thanks, you guys are the greatest!

Glad you got it

Aren't those perfectly round lint balls interesting???   I call them rabbit balls.......

LOL. Yeah but I’m confused on where they come into this question as being the culprit to the noise making issue ??  Am I missing something in this thread.

I really doubt the lint ball was making the noise in this case, (I've never heard large or multiple lint balls in the baffles make noise), most likely a coin or something else that fell out that they didn't notice when removing baffle.

Good morning budget. yeah that makes sense Budget  . Sometimes the simplest answer and most evident answer is hitting me over the head till I’m bleeding. And I know exactly what you are saying and makes total sense. Then I go , oh yeah   That’s right. ?   LOL.  I’m here in WEYMOUTH Massachusetts enjoying the morning with a cup of Java. Taking today off.    Have a nice weekend and You take care .  Work safe and talk soon brother I’m sure.
