Samsung RFG238AARS - Broken Freezer Sensor - Repairable?

I cleaned out my freezer and found a broken off widget in the bottom. Not sure how long it has been this way. The piece appears to be a temp sensor that has broken off, with a little looking I found a stretched out wire on the 'roof' of the freezer section that appears to match my broken off piece. I searched around the net and have not found a parts diagram or sample video that shows replacing this particular sensor. I did find a discussion on another site claiming that Samsung says this particular sensor is not replaceable but the owner had spliced in a new one rather than replace the whole fridge.

I downloaded the service manual and ran the self diagnostic, says the 'freezer sensor' is not working right. Is this something I can buy a replacement part and swap out (i can't get a good look without removing the freezer door so am asking before I commit to that job). Or splice in? If not, what is the downside-so far the unit seems to be working fine and reporting correct freezer temp.

Thanks.

This is what you need. It can be spliced to the other wires but you want to make sure you seal off the connection with dielectric grease or silicone to keep the moisture out.
