The LF burner doesn't heat up on this range. Where do I start with troubleshooting? Are these just regular burners under glass? Or is there something more complicated going on here. I have never taken one of these apart before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi Brian.  first thing  is , You need to be comfortable  with working on 240 volt appliances .  With a good basic electricity knowledge.  You need to be totally comfortable and have some experience with working on electric ranges. Many times you will need to do live testing of the components.  Very first thing you want to check is to make sure your getting the proper voltage needed to run the range from the wall outlet.  Check the  L1 and L2 legs at the wall for 120 volts  at each leg separately.   Then check both legs at the same time for a 240 reading  If  that all checks out then you know your getting the proper voltage needed to run the range. If these readings are off and out of normal range then the problem will most likely be with the supply voltage to the appliance.  If its just the Left front burner being the only one not working and the other burners are fine , then you most likely do not have an issue with the incoming wall voltage but you still need to verify the voltage first always with any appliance every time before you look at them. With that said ,  If its the left front radiant heating element in question , the common suspects with this type of issue will usually be the rotary switch behind the control panel for the left front burner not making good contact to the left front radiant element and denying it the proper voltage from the rotary switch (assuming your getting LI and L2 voltage going to the rotary switch).  ,   The  front left radiant surface element may be burnt out , which sometimes a visual inspection of the element might show you that ,    you could also have a bad wire or contact that is not visual some where in the circuit for that element  and rotary switch also and you will have to do a continuity check of the wiring in the circuit. , ""  DISCONNECT POWER ""    after verifying that the supply voltage is good coming out of the wall receptacle.   There should be some screws attaching the glass top under the front lip above the oven door . remove these screws and you should be able to slide forward or back and lift the glass top up for testing and such of radiant heating element components and wiring.  if you start there or at the rotary switch behind the console from the back for your checks . That can be determined by you. For the best approach when you check the house voltage to the range.   Remember !  Protect the floor as much as possible if you have to slide the range out.  Observe the condition of the floor before you even move it and make note with the home owner of any floor damage  you notice from the stove possibly being slid out  or from installation from someone else before you who did not protect the floor. If there is prior floor damage that hard to see but is there , take pictures with your phone prior to moving the range out. You want to move the range the least amount as possible during diagnosis  , according to your situation and how you start your diagnosis procedure.   Good Luck  Brian

I took the top off, removed the burner, and it was obviously broken.  The element was in pieces.  So ordered a new one, and I'm assuming it will work fine.   Very straightforward and easy.

I'm glad it is all working out for you Brian.  The part # for the LF radiant surface element should be part # 5300W1R005A  check the box for the part and make sure it is ok before going to the call.  Those Radiant heating elements are delicate  and get broken in the box they come in once in a while.  Good luck brother

Thanks! That was the part number on the one I took out.  I just matched it up.

Oh and I'm not a pro, just a homeowner fixing my appliances and maybe helping out a friend or two.
