Whirlpool WTW4800XQ2 shaking help

So a friend asked me to help with her washer.  It shakes like it’s off balance and has to be reloaded and started again.  I’m going to look at it tomorrow but figure you guys, who know way more than me, can give me some look at this and this before I go in and try.  She sent me some pics of what’s “broken” it looks like the tub itself but having never looked at this washer I’m not sure.  Hopefully the pics load right.

Thanks guys ya’ll have saved me tons of money and time in the past!

Pictures have not come through ??  Need a better delivery system ??   Maybe they will open up for someone else . Not sure why I can’t open them.

I’ll try and post when I get home on my laptop.  Thanks.

There are two of the pics she sent me.  Again not having seen this washer, I am not sure if that's part of the tub...I wouldn't think so if it still washes sometimes (she said mostly small loads are fine) but normal loads tend to throw it for a out of balance fit.

Not seeing the pics, the google drive pics are locked, you need to make them public for us to see them

Just taking a stab here, but anything she can 'see' broken is likely when she lifts the lid she is seeing a cracked/chewed up/broken tub ring. Very common to see the tub ring edges chipped and broken due to banging around. Very common repair on this machine are the suspension rods- they come in a kit of four. Often the customer will opt out of replacing the tub ring because of the cost, but they will have the suspension rods replaced. And BTW- the suspension rods won't look bad, but they are.

Well I copied and pasted the pics so obviously I’m screwing something else up.  I’ll try again, 3rd times the charm.  Yes it looked like part of the tub ring chewed up and I also saw that a common problem is the suspension rods, how can I verify that’s the problem?  Don’t want to tell her buy the rods and replace then bang bang bang!  Thanks again guys.  Hopefully I can fix the picture thing in a few.

So just opened up my Macbook to try and post the pics and I see the pictures so why can't anyone else?  What the world am I doing wrong here?.  I know I haven't posted here in a while but dang I'm losing my touch on the forum.

Alright guys I copied and pasted the pics again. I can see them on my desktop can anyone else or is it just me?  I’m not sure the broken piece is the tub ring.  And how do I tell that it’s the suspension rods?

Posted

You're seeing them fine on your side because the forum is reading them from your computer, we can't see them because they are not on our individual computers.

Grasshoppah's can't attach pictures to a post, you have to host them on another site like you did in your first post and link to them just like you did.

The problem is you did not make them public, so only you can see them - no one else can see them unless you make them public.

Perfect I’ll see if I can fix that.  Thanks!

Alright I think I changed the settings on the pics to public can anyone else see them now?

Posted

Yes, they can now be seen by all ?

kind of hard telling how bad the breakage is - main thing is if any water gets spilled over top rim that plastic wall is no longer there to direct the water back down the drain holes in the top and would run water onto the floor.

For the most part no water should be on the top tub ring anyways so most likely isn't going to be a problem.

Thanks a bunch.  So should I replace the suspension rods?  Confused on how to know if they’re bad without taking it apart.  And is it even worth it in the first place?

Push down hard on each corner of the tub from the top, let go quick, and watch how it responds. If the shocks are OK, it should only rebound once and then come to rest. If it bounced up and down, shocks are shot.
