Maytag Washer Model no. MFW9700SQ0 warm water on cold cycle

Dear Sensais:

I have the above washer. When I set  a cold cycle to wash, warm water flows. When I start the cycle with the hot water shut off, cold water comes in for a short time, but the contents are not sufficiently wetted. It's like the machine is looking for a warm wash instead of a cold wash, despite being set for just cold.

Then when I shut off the hot water supply to only allow cold water in, an error alarm/indicator activates. Mind you, I'm still on a cold cycle.

On a cold rinse, the water (seems to) flow well. Is there another cause for such a condition besides a bad inlet flow valve?

Shouldn't a cold rinse not let any hot water whatsoever into the cycle? But it seems to do just that. The plumbing is correct, by the way. If the cold side was stopped up, I should just see a trickle if it's just a bad valve, right? I just want to make sure it''s not something else.

Hoses Hooked up backwards would be my guess but h=you have checked that so. Could be bad bivalve ou would not have to just have a trickle. They can fail in many ways.

 Could be the thermistor.

I'm figuring that the Thermistor monitors and controls water temperatures?

Check your owner's manual, may be the wash selection you have made.
