Kenmore Refrigerator Not Cool

I have a fairly new (newest of my 2) Kenmore refrigerator as a backup/second in my basement. Nothing fancy, just a basic refrigerator. It recently stopped cooling. I tipped it up and checked the coil which was clean. When I turn it on I can hear the compressor pulsing very regularly (a louder hum once a second). In the freezer, the blower is only slightly cool. Can this be fix by a recharge or do you think it's more serious? I'd hate to pay for a service call if I have no idea what I'm dealing with.

not sure what is meant by pulsing once a second ,  but  you could have a bad relay on the side of the compressor .   need to be 100% sure on whether it is running or not.

I believe that it's running. The compressor normally hums along when it's on. Now when it runs it has the louder rhythmic hum. I thought maybe it was starving for oil.

If there is no frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer, and the evaporator fan , condenser fan, and compressor is running, you have major troubles.

Bad Compressor?    What?

What would a good estimate be for a new one?

Unplug the unit and take off the back cover inside the freezer compartment. If you see a large frost ball, no frost pattern, or an uneven pattern on the evaporator, you have a sealed system issue that is costly.

OK, it's been unplugged for a few days so I'm pretty sure there is no frost ball.

The few things I could think of were:
Frozen Evaporator
Blocked Condenser
Bad Thermostat

I think I've ruled out all of these. What I hear you saying is that the whole cooling system is shot.
It's not easily or cheaply repaired. This was a low end, basic refrigerator for the basement. and the repair doesn't seem worth it.
Searching around the web, it seems that this is a common problem for this model.
