I have repaired this washer and its companion dryer several times using advice from this forum (thanks). This will be an expensive repair. Is it worth it?

in most cases , yes.   depends on the overall condition of the machine .   but if it is good and you do repair it , it will outlast most any new one you could buy

I second the last post, as long as the machine is in otherwise good condition.

That Maytag will outlast any new product by years . It's all mechanical , no cheap electronic controls, porcelain top on machine

is almost indestructible compared to the powder coated paint surfaces on all the new machines, a real pump, driven by a belt.

Maytag got their  (Quality) name from these machines, not  the whirlpool clones of today.

Only negative, is the tub size compared to the new machines. Big tub is not worth the constant repairs

bill the new models will generate in just a couple of yrs.

I used to show the parts by whirlpool side by side with the Maytag to illustrate the quality difference in the

components. It was always a quick sell, once the customer saw the parts in their hands.

Thanks very much. I have a soft spot for old appliances and keeping them going. I think this set is going to be repaired rather than junked.

I would pick up a timer and have it on hand too, as they are getting harder to get for some models, and that will be the second biggest thing about getting this machine to last.

I have started saving the whole console and wiring harness off machines that are to far gone to use on machines that I can't get timers for,   just now started  having lots of trouble getting timers
