LG Dryer - DLEX2450R - drum turns for about 5 sec then stops

The drum turns for almost exactly 5 seconds than stops.  I also tried on the air dry setting, same thing.   No errors on the screen (if it can even report errors).

I can smell a slight burning odor.

The drum turns normally by hand.

What to check?

Search of symptoms recommend replacing the motor.  Looks like the thermal fuse would keep the dryer from running at all???

I recently posted a question about possible overheating.  Probably should have been titled "how hot is too hot".  The vent flows lots of air and the flow indicator on the dryer indicated no back pressure.

Adding - I believe the unit is about 10 years old.

Adding - If I leave it on, the drum will start turning after about 1 minute.  Then turn off.  Smell of burning stronger.

Unit has been unplugged!

Disconnect exhaust.  If problem goes away you have a plugged vent

Can u restart the motor as soon as it stops or do u have to wait a few minutes before it comes back on? If u can automatically restart the motor then it prob isn’t the motor as the overload protect on the motor needs to reset and sometimes takes a minute or so to do so...based off of ur symptoms I would highly suspect a motor. I had one a few months back that did very similar to that. Normally temp issues will blow fuses and either shut it down completely or cause it to turn but not heat.

if u have an ir temp gun u can disconnect and shoot the temp coming out the back. I don’t know the exact range of ur dryer but anywhere from 130-180 is normal.

Exhaust disconnected.  Problem still exists.

It does not immediately restart, but will run another 5 seconds after it has "rested" for 45-60 seconds.

I've ordered a motor through the link on this page.

Hi BRK, have you opened this up to see what is inside first?    There are vids on YouTube that show how to get in there.

I haven't opened this dryer yet. I have watched several videos on opening the unit.   I ordered the parts w/ the return guarantee.  Need the dryer back in service as quickly as possible.

I'll look around and probably check the current on the existing motor before replacing it.

New motor resolved the issue.  Thanks all!
