Returning guest presenter Aaron Wilson is back for another exciting discussion. This time, we'll be talking about...
The Science of CYA: How to Keep the Customer Safe, Document Your Work, and Not Get Sued
We take on a lot of liability as appliance repair techs, and that can get us into sticky situations whether we've done anything wrong or not. Aaron will be teaching us all about how to navigate this side of the trade.
We'll start by going over a tragic, real-world case study where a sloppy installation had lethal results, analyzing exactly how the installer's negligence caused this. From there, our scope will expand to what kind of safety precautions we should implement in our own work, both for the customer's sake and for our own.
But even if you do everything perfectly, there's still the famous "technician witch hunt." Well, we'll also talk about how to deal with that by thoroughly documenting your work and putting yourself beyond legal reproach.
A little about our guest, Aaron Wilson:
Aaron has been in the appliance repair trade for about 15 years, starting out by doing installations before moving on to bigger and better things. He worked for C&W Services as a Sub-Zero authorized servicer for a time and thereafter joined Mr. Appliance of Highland Park in the Dallas area, where he worked for years as the lead technician and field service manager. These days, he's making sure that all the appliances of everyone's favorite fried chicken place are in tip-top shape as the Quality and Performance Consultant for the southwest branch of Chick-fil-A. In addition, he has taught many classes on refrigeration repair and advanced diagnostics, during which time he also developed training material for the soft skills side of things, which he is delighted to share with you. On top of all that he's a certified graduate of the Master Samurai Tech Academy, so he knows his stuff!

Internal tests run okay. There are no error codes.

All suggestions appreciated.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help old man bill but I am having the same problem on a wrs325sdhz 00. We've replaced a bad thermistor, eventually the board.

On manual defrost cycle the thing gets super hot.

They're telling me to replace the bi-metal but it doesn't appear to have one.

Did you ever figure this out?  I have the same problem with a WRS325SDHZ01.  Thanks!

Exact same thing I am experiencing as well. Entire freeze evaporator coil is covered with frost infact it is so much that the evap cover is also submersed in frost.

I checked the gasket and both Fz and fridge gasket are okay.

I checked the Fz thermostat in cold water and it tested okay.

I checked the fridge thermostat and it also tested okay.

Checked the air diffuser and tested okay. (Fridge)

Checked evap fan and tested okay.

Checked evap heating element - tested okay.

Now, air is coming out of air diffuser but the air can't return to the FZ since it is full packed up with frost.

I am attaching some pictures, please have a look and if you have any suggestions please suggest.

Thanks,

Dee

UNPLUG REFRIGERATOR Buy a steamer $40 Bissell steam shot and defrost the panel that's frosted up. After you see the 4 screws holding the panel on remove them and steam around all the sides to be able to completely release the panel. Wear gloves panel is sharp. After you remove the rectangular panel (have to lift up a little to unhook from plastic tabs towards top) COMPLETELY steam out all frost while either soaking up all water with towel and removing back panel behind refrigerator to shop vac all water that going to flood the drain pan from all the water. Then look for a brown wire that possibly came off of the defrost heater and splice wires and wire nut together (put waterproof silicone caulk in wire nut to prevent water getting in). Then reassemble everything the way you disassembled.

Did you check the thermistor on the evaporator coil also? Only thing left is the dispenser board and defrost terminators but I haven't figured out how to test the terminators yet. The display board on this model reports to the main board temperatures unlike most other brand where it just controls the dispenser.
