Viking Range if ignitor module VGIC3074BSS

Viking range ignitor module has been replaced 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years and needs it again now with only a couple burners working.  It lasted about 2 years this last time.  Getting module from local appliance parts house.  I believe it is invensys and or robertshaw. Most of the time complete failure and even a meltdown of the plastic casing before. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks.

Have you tried getting it directly from Viking? 

These things are not fond of aftermarket parts.  I tell customers that we'll only install OEM parts in Viking, Sub-Zero, Wolf, etc. I also remind them that they paid $6000+ for a range and repairs are expensive.

No, that was my next question if there is an oem part. Some of these say oem. If I could start with an oem part number I can and will get the original module.  Is this only available from Viking normally? This is what I wanted to confirm. Will gladly pay more to not have the problem so frequently.  Thank you

The Viking part number is PA020047 and is available through my supplier. It is manufactured by Invensys, so if that info jives with what you've been getting from your parts house then you're getting the OEM part. Is it possible that there is a wiring issue with the igniters themselves? Maybe change the spark plugs and wires when you change the module again?

Thanks for the reply.  This is the part I’ve been installing through the years. I was hoping to not change it all out but it sounds like it may need it unless I can isolate a certain wire. Just thinking, what can cause it to get so hot one of the times to melt the plastic case.  Maybe an ignitor lead is grounding out.  Will definitely check all leads and and possibly change all ignitors too.  Thank you

A bad ground maybe? I had a Wolf gas range a few weeks back where one of the burner bases for the surface burner completely melted leaving the two burner caps in place. The customer didn't even know anything happened until she tried to use it and it didn't work.
