KitchenAid Gas Cooktop KFGS306VSS02 Center Burner Igniter replacement options

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a KitchenAid Gas Cooktop KFGS306VSS02.  The center burner's igniter (spark electrode) is arcing in two different spots below where it is supposed to arc in order to ignite the gas. It refuses to arc at the top, where it needs.  I have used a magnifying glass and verified that there are two hairline cracks in the ceramic on the spark electrode (and the cracks are where the arcs are).  It is definitely toasted and needs to be replaced.

Here's the problem:  That particular part (OEM Part  #W10132167) is not available.  It's apparently a Whirlpool part #.  It's different from the other 4 spark electrodes in that is has a little "button top" instead of the bare wire sticking straight up out of the ceramic.  I'm guessing the "button top" works the same as a bare wire that was bent at a 90angle would work.  I think where the spark electrode is mounted that it has a little more distance for the spark to jump than a straight wire would be able to provide and the "button top" closes the distance like a longer, bent wire would?

So, the questions are: Does anybody know a source for the OEM part?   Is there a suitable, proven aftermarket replacement?  Can I just stick any spark electrode in there that will fit or are there some important specs that I should be aware of?

TIA,

Shane

I am so sorry for reviving such an old post but I am in the exact situation as the OP and can’t find a replacement part or what other electrode I can put in that would work.

hoping someone can help
