Whirlpool Estate ETW4400WQ0 Not Agitating

Recommended Posts

Posted

My Whirlpool Estate ETW4400WQ0 washing machine is not agitating. Just goes back and forth a little bit. Agitation sound is louder than normal. I replaced the dogs, and that did not fix the problem. Then I replaced the agitator thrust washer. That also did not fix the problem. I have verified that the agitator cam is aligned and snapped into place correctly on the thrust washer. Asking what else could be the problem. The machine will spin and drain just fine.

Here is a video of the machine in action.

When we talk about washer agitation (agitate) it means the spin cycle. And it can get you agitated if your washer is not agitating. We quite often have to use an agitator repair kit that contains several of the key components. The agitator is usually located at the top of the washer. A drive block connects the washer transmission to the agitator, it can be broken or loose. The motor coupling is another prime suspect.

I found this info at:  https://www.electrafixbc.ca/appliances/washer.html

Since it spins ok it means the motor to transmission coupler is ok. Remove the complete agitator and check the splines. The transmission shaft has spline that mate to inside of agitator. If they are ok then it is the transmission. Something with the neutral drain shifter is broken inside the trans.
