2 questions - Whirlpool Cabrio Washer WTW6340WW0

Had an F32 + F72 error code on this washer, washer would not drain. There were also large gray/brown flakes in the basket.

In auto diagnostic mode, stops at C8 and just continued to agitate and would not drain.

I pulled the drain pump, nothing blocking the drain, also tested for continuity. Everything appears ok. I think I replaced the drain pump motor about 2 years ago.

Thinking perhaps there was something in the filter/trap, I pulled the basket. Inside the tub and the basket was a nasty mess. A slimy coating of this grayish/brown stuff, almost like liquid lint. I hosed off the tub and used a chlorine cleaner to get everything clean. Also cleaned the basket thoroughly and used shopvac to remove any debris and water.

WHAT IS THIS SLIME?  Smells like detergent or fabric softener. I think my wife uses way too much of both. We use powdered HD detergent FWIW.

I opened the filter/trap and nothing in there (I've found coins and other stuff in there before).

So far so good.

NEW DRIVER HUB IS EXTREMELY TIGHT. I'm in the process of reassembling, and decided for the price that I would go ahead and replace the Basket Drive Hub while I had everything apart. I purchased this kit:

https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Basket/W10820039/4273189

The new driver hub (the smaller white part) is an extremely tight fit. The old one has a few worn teeth, but slides on easily. The new one is EXTREMELY tight and won't slide on without force.

In all the videos I've seen the driver hub slides on easily with no need to force it. I'm a bit baffled. Side by side comparison attached. The look identical.

Any suggestions? I don't want to force the hub on. I also don't want to put the old one back on.IMG_9357.JPG?dl=1

I reassemble everything, still get F32.

(FWIW I just used a little dab of grease on the part and it went on.)

It's still doing the same thing during the auto test cycle - stuck on C8, not draining, impeller is swishing back and forth. When I press the button to get it manually go to C9, it just beeps and finishes without draining.

I'm guessing drain pump needs replacing?

No reply, but resolved my own question. I found the OEM Whirlpool Pump W10536347 drain pump on Amazon for $23.50. A local appliance parts supply shop had it for $117, so saved a bundle.

Installed, and it's up and running again. I'm thinking the sludge caused the old pump to die...

Anyway, good to go with the washing machine running again. Still wondering about the sludge. Excess detergent, or liquid fabric softener? How can I minimize this in the future?

Google and research wash water temps...

Just to double check, you posted HD detergent should be HE.  Should use as little detergent as possible to get your cloths clean. Same with fabric softner. Hard habit to break, most of us think if alittle is good more is better.

HE2 1 tablespoon
