GE Washer will not fill except on rinse

Recommended Posts

I have a GE Washer model GTW1800SSJ0WWW that is not working correctly. It will not fill on any of the wash settings, but it will fill on the rinse cycle. I'm thinking it is a timer control issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Start with the simple things , most rinse cycles use cold water, is the wash temp set to cold also?  If you happen to wash in hot water you could have a stopped up hose screen or bad inlet valve. If that’s not the case you may be right about a control issue

I have tried both hot and cold. Neither worked. I tested to see if the cycle would work when we manually fill the tub and had success with that.

We have had some issues with the hot water dripping inside the tub after the cycle has finished. Wondering if it could be a bad inlet valve but I would think that if that's the case the cold rinse would not work either.

Your valve dripping when not running does mean your valve is bad , but I don’t believe it is causing your other issue. From the way you have described and tested the washer I am leaning to a control issue

Ok - thanks for the help. I'm assuming that by control issue, I need to replace the timer? Or is there another controller that could be the problem?

When you first pull the knob on the timer, power goes to the valve and pressure switch. Once filled the timer motor energizes  the timer motor and starts advancing your selected cycle. So yes, the timer is advancing, but not sending voltage when the knob is pulled. You need a new one. Plus depending on how bad the dripping is, new valve also
