Fix for LG Washer WM2277HW leaking liquid detergent down front and inside.

Hi Appliantology Forum,

Here's a tip on the only way I found that will stop the liquid detergent from running out the bottom of the dispenser tray and down the inside and outside of the washer:
Stop using liquid detergent!

I use a name brand powdered detergent that has "HE" on the label (actually Tide HE Turbo). Additionally, the cup provided in the soap box is far too generous for the soap company (and messing up your washer too). Here's a pic of the "cup" I made (yes, that's a specimen cup).  If you can't see it in the pic, the marks are at 2oz, 2.7oz and 3.5oz :

DIY Powdered Detergent Cup for front loading LG Washer WM2277HW.

I can't remember the last time I used the 3.5oz marker. I prefer not to overload the washer. Long gone are the laundromat days where how many quarters we had ruled how much we could pack into the drum. Ha!

Btw, the Low, Medium and High marks were made based on appliance repair experts' suggestions elsewhere on the net. I also adjusted the soap manufacturer's levels down by observing the excess soap bubbles during the wash cycle. Takeaway: 1) No bubbles is not good. 2) A very little bit of bubbles is good. 3) A lot of bubbles is overkill and only serves to harm your washer, harm the environment, and clean out your wallet too.

Hope that helps : )

factory fix for that detergent tray. new part has larger opening at hose connection with larger flap. getting clogged with thick liquid detergents. clean out with bottle brush and tell customer to thin out liquid detergent or replace with new dispenser tray.

Hi pacman70,

Thanks for that heads-up on that "factory fix part". I'll put that in my book of things to remember. Btw, a flashlight down the tube in the back looked very clean just before we switched over to powder.

Also btw, I had that tray assembly and top plastic front panel out when I did the rust repair & repaint (from the liquid soap running out the front and corroding the front metal panel). Since the washer is in a garage, I flushed as much of the soap out of the inside of the metal panel as I could over a couple days.

I told the boss that she might be able to go back to liquid if she doesn't mind thinning it out first: She said the powder is fine.

Thanks for the bottle brush tip too : )
