Whirlpool Gas dryer GGW9878PW0 gas valve leak

Recommended Posts

Whirlpool gas dryer has gas leak coming from burner orifice (soapy water tested). All other connections are good. Is it possible a bad coil could cause this, or will I just need to replace the gas valve? Dryer works, but I smell gas when the unit is off and traced it to the orifice.

If it leaks when it's off, that would be a bad valve body.

Unfortunately, I don't see it available as a separate part, just as a whole burner.

@ Terry - thanks for the confirmation. I have found where the gas valve mfr White-Rodgers / Emerson makes a universal gas valve and includes all possible orifices in the kit. Looks like 25M01A-101 is the kit for mine.

Can I chime in here: what would cause a gas valve to go bad? (not the solenoids)

I've seen the inside get chewed up and contain metal shavings a couple of times, although I have no idea what causes it.
