Roper Electric Dryer; no heat, element burned out...

Tested all the sensors you can see after removing the back panel and they have continuity.  Tested the heating element for continuity and it failed.  Removed element to find the coil was burnt and broken and the insulation between front coils and back coils was black & cracked right behind the brake in the coil.  When this failure occurred the timer had stopped as well;  So is it possible the stopped timer caused the element to fail?  Is it safe to put in a new element and run the dryer if the timer doesn't come back on? (I would shut off the dryer manually until timer issue is resolved).

Sorry I don't have model numbers on the dryer, the heater element is 3401585 if memory serves.

thank you.

That part number did not come up. If the part is 279838, check the vent and then let dryer cycle the element 2 or 3 times to check thermostat operation after installing new element.  The timer may start working with the new element.

It is more likely that the timer stopped because the heater failed. A lot of these timers depend on the cycling thermostat functioning properly to advance the timer.

I will throw the new element in there and see if the timer comes back to life...
