Freezer Ice Buildup - Maytag MFI2269VEM7

Having issue with Ice building up in the bottom of the freezer on this unit (Unit with lower Freezer). I have removed the ice from the bottom twice and decided to investigate further thinking something is wrong. Just watched the very helpful video on YouTube from this site on this very Issue.  Followed the suggestions and de-iced everything I could around the drain and as far into the drain as I could get. Adding lukewarm water and suctioning it out. Even used a can of compressed air to agitate the water around in the drain. Lots of gunk was stirred up and suctioned out. I did this until I could get nothing else out.

At this point I have to ask, should the water have been going on down the drain itself, or does the fridge have to be running before it will do so? If it should have went down by itself I probably still have an issue. Is there anything else I should have done to further clear the drain ?

Note: This unit is in an RV and is solidly mounted to the floor and enclosed on all sides but the front. Getting to the back will require some planning and extra labor to get it out to access the back.

The water should move down the drain freely. Pour a glass of hot water in the drain pan below the evaporator.  It should go right down, no standing water.  Get or fabricate a ice surrender kit to get way down the drain.

If you happen to have a steamer it would work great, you can get a steamer for personal use pretty cheap,  it would make it a lot easier!

That looks pretty easy to make I may need to try this. My other question, Should a straw, tube, plastic wire-tie, etc. placed into the drain go all the way down and out the rubber nipple on the end of the tube? Or is there an intended obstruction made into the drain to prevent this?

Once you clear the ice, the fix is this part. It replaces the rubber nipple.Part number: AP5780744

Yep, once it's clear to prevent the drain from refreezing you'll need access to the rear of the unit to either (ideally) install the P-trap kit, or notch the Duckbill (rubber nipple).

There is going to be a chance you can't get the water to flow from top down and out the drain.

You will have to pull the unit out and remove the rubber duck bill grommet and get it to open - should have the P-Trap drain kit above before you start and just replace it all at the same time so you don't have to pull it out twice.

Those duck bill grommets get all gummy and stick together so they won't let the water drain.
