GE Top Load Washer (GTAN5250DWW) not always draining

Recommended Posts

Hello and happy holidays!  My GE top load Washer (GTAN5250DWW) is draining inconsistently.  One time I could hear whirring but no draining, so I removed the drain hose from the wall and lowered it, which got the water to drain.  But the next load it drained fine.  Then another load it stopped and shut off full of water.

I inspected the drain hose and it is clear.  I accessed the pump assembly - I see no blockages in the hoses or pass through part of the pump assembly.  I can't see any way to open the impeller?  Is it possible or is this even likely to be the problem?

Thanks for any advice.

Since you have it apart, wiggle the impeller.  If it loose time to replace the drain pump assembly.  The impeller is cast on to a round shaft and breaks loose easily.

It seems that was it.  I replaced the pump and everything is fine.  Thank you!
