LG washer WM3900HBA.ABLEUUS making a ton of nose in spin cycle

The problem started about two weeks ago - a load of laundry was extremely loud - will the washer survive or will it tear itself apart? Since then its regularly (but not always) pretty loud toward the end of the cycle. Scheduled a repair - repair guy came in, ran diagnostic mode, did a rinse and spin cycle with the dirty clothes I had on hand and in the end he was satisfied nothing was wrong. After he left I added a couple of items and ran the wash cycle (with high speed spin, like he suggested) and it was loud again.

What can I do to help prevent another wasted repair call?

First tests are easy, push and pull the inner basket to check for movement. The outer tub is hung from 2 spring and mounted on the bottom with shocks and moves. just want to see if there is any movement of inner basket. Next spin the basket by hand to listen for noisy bearings. After that grab the front lip of the basket push up and pull down, rotate the basket and try again. Check at least 6 spots, 12 would be better. This checks the bearings for play and to see if one of the mounting arms is loose or broken. Look around where the front lip of the basket and door boot come close to each other, check for rub spots. This for out of round basket and/or basket flexing at high speed.

Next set of test involves removing covers, top and outer spring of door boot

Remove back cover to check rotor to see if it loose.

Remove top to check upper counter weight to see if it is loose. Sometimes you can check lower weight for the top. If not take off the outer door boot spring and peel boot loose to check lower weight for tightness.

Lastly if you don't want to do the checks. Just figure out what kind of load will make the noise. Usually a heavy load will do the trick 6 to 8 towels.
