This may be late, but I came across this when I had the same fault on my Miele oven, so posting in case it helps someone in future.

This fault is indeed due to the oven over-heating. Apparently its quite an uncommon fault.  I confirmed the problem by putting an oven thermometer in and setting it to 180. Although the oven showed the temperature gradually rising to 180, when it got to temperature the element at the back stayed on and the oven temperature got to 240 on the thermometer before I turned it off. I had it repaired by the Miele engineer. As expected from my own test, there was no problem with the temperature sensor. Instead, the problem was a relay not allowing the oven to turn off the rear element.

Miele repairs are expensive. Including call-out, parts etc, the total came to £394. Considering the costs of these ovens, it is worth it.

A word of warning. I had initially asked a local repair company to take a look. They charged me £72 to check it, and concluded that it was the main control board that needed changing. This would be a very expensive repair. They tried to buy one to repair it for me, and (luckily) couldn't find one since my oven is 5 years old, so told me there was nothing they could do. If they'd been able to do what they wanted I would have had a huge repair bill that wouldn't have even resolved the problem.

Hi I have the exact same problem with my Miele 6860 oven, it doesn't give an error code but it keeps heating up past the set temperature. Which Relay was replaced ? And that was the only thing that was replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it is a very nice oven.
