Viking oven fails second ignition

Hey guys, so my Viking Oven (model VGSC3676BSS) seems to be encountering a bizarre issue.

When initially putting the oven on Bake, the oven ignites just fine. Then either the flame goes out or subsequent ignitions fail because the oven is cooling down once I check on it in about 5 minutes. However, once I fire the oven up again, it works flawlessly.

Viking suggested moving the bracket that holds the igniter closer to the burner. I did this but it did not solve the problem.

The issue seemed to start happening after there was a small  oil fire inside the oven. Should I attempt a self clean? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Really need an ampmeter on circuit and monitor what’s happening electrically.

Id also check burner tube closely for clogged ports etc...

Yes you need to check the amperage of the igniter. May wanna call a technician. Sounds like weak igniter.

Definitely have to recommend having a technician look at it...Having an oil fire inside of the oven could have damaged some wiring or electronics...I would not recommend using it until it is properly inspected.

We've used it many times since and it's been working pretty well. I just ordered a new ignitor to see if that does anything, especially since the flame sensor is integrated into it.

If that fails, I will try a new burner tube. I did notice that it takes up to 30 or 40 seconds sometimes for the flame to cross over from the outside burner holes to the inside. Viking said their new burner tube has a better design for quicker flame crossover. They also said this slow crossover could disrupt the flame pattern and confuse the flame sensor as a result. They stated that the flame crossover should happen within 2 to 3 seconds.

When cooking today, I noticed the oven did initially ignite (heard the typical gas whoosh sound) but the flame must've gone out because it attempted another ignition 30 seconds later which was successful.

I'm assuming that when the oven stops heating, it is because it had a few unsuccessful ignition attempts.

Given these symptoms, is the issue pretty much isolated to the ignitor/flame sensor or the burner tube? I suppose there is an outside chance it's a gas valve but I doubt it. I did notice with the initial failed ignition that the oven did smell strongly of gas.

Thanks!

I’ll simply repeat myself.

None, cleaned ports with a wire brush as well.

Aha that’s why it started working...

Its still not working consistently. I bought a new ignitor/flame sensor. If that doesnt do the trick I will buy a new burner tube.

I'm not sure what else it could be. Thermostat is working fine since board appears to consistently send power to ignitor. I'm just hoping flame sensor isn't getting a consistent reading but I'm I'm starting to suspect the burners.

I actually just bought a new burner tube for insurance. Between that and the new ignitor, I'll be completely lost if that doesn't fix it.
