Opinions about True Freezer

Recommended Posts

Hi Friends,

I have been running a small seafood restaurant since last November. I was using two second-hand freezer. Last week, one of them was damaged. It was not cooling and a bad smell was coming from the freezer. Now we are using only one freezer. But using one freezer is not enough to store these many items.

Stuffing many items in one freezer won't make it easy. So I am planning to buy a new freezer. I was checking it online and found this true 2 door freezer. Had anyone bought this product? Did it need frequent maintenance works? Please share your opinions.

Thanks!

I'm a technician, so can't speak with any opinions regarding reliability.

I've worked on them.  From that standpoint, their only downside is how they have their condenser BELOW the cooling compartment - which creates a unique issue for technicians to deal with (if that particular problem arises)...which I won't get into.  That issue doesn't affect the freezer's functionality.

True equipment is well made.  They also have a better warranty than most other brands.

However, if I was going to buy a commercial, two-glass-door freezer, I would give Traulsen a real good look.  They're simply built better all around.  I'd also stay away from the foreign-made cheaper stuff from Korea and China.  Their products have flooded the U.S. market in the past twenty years and cheaper initial purchase prices have made them desirable and competitive.  However, their inferior construction and poor product support in the U.S. leads to some unique challenges when their stuff breaks.

Whichever brand you decide on, just be sure to keep ALL of your refrigeration equipment healthy by cleaning the condenser coil FREQUENTLY.  Newer equipment designs have made that ESPECIALLY important.  If that coil gets restricted to a point that blocks airflow, you'll be calling for repairs WAY sooner than you should have to.  Overheating is the NUMBER ONE cause of refrigeration equipment failure.
