I have a Kenmore 417.41122410 front load washer that had a starting problem.

It thought the front door lock wasn't locking (it wasn't).

I was going to replace the lock mechanism anyway ($60,  but 3 days away), so I decided to find out WHY it wasn't working.

There are two parts to that part. The quick latch, and the slow latch.

The quick latch is an electromagnet, the slow latch is the wax motor (when it heats up, it moves out, when it cools down, it moves in...)

My "quick latch" wasn't working. I found that one of the coil wires (about the thickness of a human hair) had broken from the connection.

I unwound one loop from the coil, and soldered it to the connection point.

Now the latch works fine...

I hope this helps you.
