Whirlpool Refrigerator WRF560SEYB02 Damper Replacement?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Our fridge has been making a loud sound for the past year and a half. It causes no issues with fridge performance that I can tell. However, it is extremely annoying.

After some investigation, and I am almost positive the damper assembly is making the noise when it opens and closes. I bought a new one (part WPW10257451), and am having a hard time figuring out how to access the damper.

I take apart the plastic cover over the assembly, but there is a solid chunk of styrofoam insulation covering the damper that goes all the way up the back of the fridge. It doesn’t seem to want to move. Is this piece glued in? Can I pry it away to reveal the damper? I just don’t want to break the insulation. Picture below shows the styrofoam going up the back of the fridge (had to put the reservoir and food back so it wouldn’t spoil).

Any help would be appreciated - thanks!
