The XLO burners does have flow of gas any more. Sparks works fine. Why does this happen?

Usually dirty.

I have cleaned the burner caps and made sure that the holes are all free of dirt and also cleaned the venturi tubes. Practically, anything that can be cleaned from the outside is squeaky clean now. There is something else that is going on inside the unit.

I need to open it up and while I have the mechanical skills and I have searched the internet for some info on the Thermador gas cooktops and not much info out there. Hence I thought a Service Manual would give me some info as to how to open this sealed unit, if I could not find a site where I can buy it so I posted here.

Alternately, I would buy a new unit and install it myself but ran into another issue My current Thermador 30 inch gas cooktop fits in a 18 inch depth X 26.75 inch wide cutout and I have searched quite a bit and cannot find a new gas cooktop that will fit in my current granite countertop cutout dimensions. All the new ones need larger cutout dimensions, the smallest I have found needs 19 inch depth X 29 inch wide. Cutting the granite is my last option in the current situation.

The local service dealers all have limited service due to covid and are not making house calls for social distancing.

Anyways, does anybody have ideas or suggestions?

Much appreciated!

Such repairs are considered essential services, so you should be able to get a tech to look at it.

However even essential businesses can close voluntarily.

I found a Miele gas cooktop, the cutout depth says 18 7/8 inch, ours is 18 1/4 inch. Is there any leeway in actual dimensions, does anybody installed this model 2032G ?

I am surprised that I cannot find any 30 inch wide cooktop that will fit my current cutout dimensions of 26.75 inch wide and 18.25 inch depth, nada, zilch.

Didn't see it mentioned, did you inspect the jets? They get plugged with gunk. Item 5 on jet holder assembly page of parts web sites. Cooking boil overs or possible debris from the gas supply plug the jets. May have to remove jets to inspect. Can clean with small wire, just don't change the size of the hole. The distribution system for gas is - regulator - manifold tube - gas valves - tube to burner - burner assembly with jet. Since you have one burner working the regulator, manifold should be ok. That leaves gas valves and associate tubing, burners. It would be odd for 3 gas valve to go out at same time.

Not so much in a Thermador range or gas cooktop, very easy and common for two burners to go out at the same time, (left side burners on Thermador's are usually the XLO burners which have a gas shutoff valve in both of those surface burner gas lines).

I believe @yoda_yg made a typo in this statement and meant to say, "The XLO burners DON'T have flow of gas anymore."

If the control module for the left side XLO burners fail then neither left side burner will work.

The one burner on the right side that isn't working - if the spark is working correctly, (sparking to the burner cap and not a cracked igniter sparking out at bottom of igniter), then that one may just need the orifice cleaned.

Thanks William, I suspect that the control switch might have gone kaput after we spilled water while making pasta, the water must have gone under the knobs down to the controller and shorted it out. The right back knob is stuck and is working fine but knob does not pop up in off position, minor inconvenience given everything. When I open this up maybe a good cleaning will unstuck this knob.

I wonder if we can swap out the XLO valves to regular ones and attach wires to spark controller bypassing simmer control ( get rid of it). We never used the XLO feature, useless for us. Moreover the simmer switch are hard to get or are very expensive. Maybe the regular valves (without potentiometer and solenoid gobbledegook) are cheaper to buy and available. Any ideas or feedback as to if this is doable?

I don't know since I don't really deal with much Themador stuff - the one I had that had the XLO burners not working, the venturi tubes would not come unscrewed and with the estimate to replace parts after drilling out the customer decided against repair.

Unless you have already got the venturi tubes loose it would be a good idea for you to YouTube "Removing Thermador range venturi tubes" to see what you might be up against and some ideas on how to drill them out  and what parts you may need to to reassemble if you have to drill the tubes out.

You probably could with the correct fittings bypass the shutoff solenoids to the left XLO burners and replace the potentiometers with standard spark switches but that would be up to you to research - I won't go there trying to explain what all you would have to do and would never try to do this for a customer.   If it were mine that's a different story.

If you got water into the control switch/potentiometers, that very well could have caused your problem - especially if they were working before you did that.   If I remember correctly from the other techs in the tech only forums these XLO control systems are getting harder to find lately and there is a possibility that you can't get just the control switch/potentiometers and have to order a complete XLO control system with new style potentiometers.

I could be totally off base on the above - maybe someone else will chime in and say one way or the other.
