Whirlpool electric range, oven issues

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help diagnose an issue I’m having with a whirlpool electric range. I purchased the range about 3 years ago but didn’t actually start using until fairly recently and obviously the warranty is no longer valid. The range itself works well enough and no issues but the oven is another story. The thing never gets to temperature that is displayed and when it “reaches” what it thinks the displayed temperature which is usually 40 - 50 degrees off its target temperature.  When it does think it reaches target temperature  it then shuts down and losses another 40 - 50 degrees before coming back on but again never reaches the desired temperature. Even when trying to do the max or broil feature the thing will NEVER see more then 425 degrees.

my wife is a baker and has a myriad of temperature monitors/ thermometer ect... I don’t want to start just replacing parts and chasing my tail throwing good money out the door. I was wondering if this may be indicative of a known problem with whirlpool and a good chance it might be a tell tail sign of X issue. My first thought was to just replace the thermostat and see but again with this new stuff maybe there’s more then one thermostat or maybe it’s built into the motherboard ect...

I recently came across this forum and was able to diagnose a blown thermo fuse on my LG electric Dryer with the help of the forum. I did a search first before posting and all my symptoms were indicative of said thermo fuse. After doing the continuity test of all the related parts in the heating element it was in fact the thermo fuse and a simple $20 part so a big thanks to the forum and all its experienced professionals who take the time to save us working joes that are handy some money fixing it ourselves. I tried searching like I did on my dryer for the whirlpool but didn’t come up with much so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

MODEL NUMBER

Need the model number of the unit.  If you are getting heat , the fuse is not blown.  Depending on the range you can calibrate the temperature.  ( Look at the tech sheet)  Also, The temperature swing at start up is high and, it will cycle on and off  alot until it reaches  equilibrium. Then , as it needs it.  Allow approx 20 minutes to balance.

need a model # and a serial # of the stove as everyone has mentioned. Without that , you will not get the proper response  and educated solution to your problem .  If your stove has a bottom pots and pans drawer. Open the draw and then look down by the left front and right front legs. the model # and serial # sticker should be most likely loacated by one of the front legs when the lower drawer is opened.  Now,  On the back side of the oven , behind the console , there is a plastic pouch which will have the tech sheet in it along with the wiring diagrame. get that and start there. you will find all the specifications and readings you should be getting from your meter . You mentioned you had a meter for voltage and ohms readings I would assume since you said you had a meter and used it for testing your dryer , you know how to use it.   check your ohms reading at the main control board for the temperature probe in the oven . With the temp. probe wires disconnected from the main control board.  If the stoves temp probe ohms out to the proper specs. at room temperature then that will tell you the temperature probe and the wiring harness for the temp. probe is most likely ok.   Oven temperature probes rarely fail but they do sometimes. The tech sheet from the back should say at room temperature that  your temp probe should be reading around 1080 ohms . Other components need checking and verifying to move forward but I cant really tell you much more without a Model # and Serial # to know what other componets you have for your particular oven model ?? It sounds like a bad oven control board but again other components need checking first before you can definately say its the main oven control board that is definately causing  this.  So get that model # and serial # posted back here on the site and someone will most likely be able to help you further along the way here.

No aluminum baking liners or any aluminum foil in oven?

Ok, sorry for the delay... the model # WFE530C0ES0 and serial #R70986065

thanks for all who have taken the time to reply... to the last reply, we do have a single sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom to catch any drippings. Could that be an issue? I’ve done that all my life and never had any issues prior.

Take it out and retest

  • Don't use foil to line the bottom of the oven to catch spills and drips. It will cause food to heat unevenly and, over time, can damage the oven, says Mary Ellen Camire, Ph.D., a product-development expert for the nonprofit Institute of Food Technologists. You're better off wiping up messes after each use, when the oven has cooled but before the spill has hardened.

Sooooo, I can’t believe this but I think it was in fact the foil! We had to do some baking and tested the no foil lined oven and the temps were much more consistent and came pretty close to achieving the target temperature, it heated up faster, and didn’t lose as much temp when cycling, ect... these past 6 months have been nerve racking to say the least and the source of many fights between me and the mrs. because she wanted me to buy a new range and I didn’t want to and said I’ll get to it, I’ll get to it... turns out all I had to do was take out the foil, man do I feel like a ham now, haha.

thanks again to all of you guys who took the time to respond! The forum and its members have save the day once again!
