Whirlpool WTW4850XQ1 motor not moving the drum

Recommended Posts

My Whirlpool WTW4850XQ1 is once again giving me fits... this time the motor will not spin the drum, either direction. I have once again a changed the capacitor, suspecting it to be the culprit  cause when the motor receives the signal from the controller to come on I can hear it hum. No change. I have verified that the motor itself is good, I pulled it and applied 120V to the CW and CCW connectors and it spins no problem. I have tested the shift assembly and it has no issues... My wife is about ready to go get a new one, which I don't mind, but I just don't want to waste any money if a $20 bill and 10 minutes can put it back into service.

Check the wiring going to the motor and cap. On the tub frame there should be a coil of red wire that whirlpool use as a inductor.  The wires are zip tied to the tub. They over do the force on the zip ties and it will break the wire conductors, but not the insulation. There can be more than one break. If possible soldering and shrink tube is best for repairs.
