2005 Maytag Neptune Dryer - Opening/closing door turns machine on/off

Hello All,

Attempting to figure out if my problem is something I can repair on my own or not. New to me dryer (15 years old) was working before placed in storage less than 3 months ago. I get dryer home, plug in, attach vent hose and get up and see dryer is on. Put in first load close door and dryer is off. Open door, display comes back on. Close door and display is off again. No ON power button available. I open door, power comes on I am able to choose options and  press start then display says door, So I close door and dashboard goes dark again. I can literally have the door open and push & release the little knob that tells machine if the door is open or closed and watch the dashboard turn on and off.  Is this fixable? Is this worth fixing? And can I fix it or does it require a pro? BTW the plate the model # was on Is completely missing. Nothing but adhesive residue in a perfect rectangle is left.
Again the machine is a 2005 Maytag Neptune Electric dryer.
TIA

Lizzie
