Maytag Epic Z - F24 error after power outage while running

About 10 minutes into the wash cycle we had a 5 second power outage. When I try to restart the washer I get the F-24 temp sensor error. The manual says it can be cleared by pushing PAUSE twice but that does nothing except turn off the unit. I have tried restarting on SPIN & RINSE, no luck, back to F-24.

The door is locked and there's water in the tub.

  1. Is there anyway to get it drained and unlocked to remove the clothes and so water will not run out when I remove the sensor for replacement?
  2. I assume the sensor could have blown when the power came back on. I'm a tech in another industry, I can check the resistance of the sensor, can anyone tell me what it should be so I can confirm that's the problem?

thanks,

 Rob

Should be an access panel on the front below the door. The screws are underneath along the bottom. Remove those and the panel comes off. The white round piece in front is the drain filter. Tilt the washer back and find a way to catch the water. If you back the filter out real slow, you can control the water.

One drained, you can reach up behind the front panel to the door latch and feel a round plastic tab sticking out of the bottom. Pull downward a little and open the door.

F24 is one of my favorites.  Your spec is 39.5k ohms at 32f and 1k ohms at 203f. It's easily accessed from the top at the board. Connector TH2 (black wires)

Take the rear panel off and locate the black wires coming from the sensor and gently tug the both directions near the zip ties. Generally you'll find that one wire is broken. Why that would happen immediately after a power failure is beyond me, but check it out.
