Maytag Bravos Dryer -mgdx500xw0 will turn on but will not start

My Maytag Dryer mgdx500xw0 will turn on but will not start.  I tested the thermal fuse and the door switch and both appear to be fine.  I do however hear a click from the control panel every time I hit start.

Not sure what "appear to be fine" means to you.  How did you test them and what were the results?

The other areas/components that can be tested as possible suspects are:

  • Voltage output from the dryer electronic control board
  • Wiring and connections through the motor circuit
  • The belt switch
  • The motor windings

Open door spin drum by hand. How much tension do you feel? Can you turn it easy or is there resistance?

Could be simple broken belt.

I really need to simplify my thinking before I respond to the questions here.  I never considered making such a simple possibility.

FWIW:  In such cases, I'd normally suggest that folks refer to their user's manual for guidance on some simple troubleshooting.  WELL...I looked in that dryer's users manual and the manufacturer didn't even bother to list that as a possibility.

Check the motor relay on the board for bad solder joints.

I've seen many.

I tested continuity for the Thermal fuse and the door switch and both had continuity.

How do I check the following:

  • Voltage output from the dryer electronic control board
  • Wiring and connections through the motor circuit
  • The belt switch
  • The motor windings

And the belt is in tact.

If you Google your model number for a tech sheet, you'll find the "JUSTANSWER" (hint).  There might actually be a tech sheet in the unit.

Sorry, but I'm not allowed to provide the link and, although its also available on this forum, I don't have access to that one since it's only accessible by paid members in the trade.

Are you hearing the motor relay click when you hit start?

If so pop the board out of its housing and inspect the back of it.
