GLRS264ZAB6 Water Dispenser Causes Ice Maker to Overflow

Recommended Posts

Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerator and Ice Maker had been working perfectly.  Then one day we noticed the ice maker was overflowing and causing water to drip out the front of it.  Any time we hit the water dispenser button on the door to fill a glass, not only does it shoot water out the dispenser, it also shoots water into the ice maker!

I incorrectly thought this meant we should replace the water inlet valve on the bottom of the back of the frig, but that did not solve the problem.

Any help troubleshooting will be appreciated!

FYI, I just checked and any time the water dispenser lever is pressed, the solenoid to the ice maker receives about 50v.  I would assume it's not supposed to receive any voltage.

You've got a shorted diode in the water/icemaker valve wiring, the diodes stop both the water and icemaker valves coming on when either/or the other is activated.

The shorted diode sends voltage thru both the water valve and the ice maker valve when you active the water dispenser.

There is a kit to replace this pair of diodes when you encounter the problem you are having.  The kit isn't listed on the parts breakdown.  I will try to do a search and see if I can find it for you before completing this answer for you.

Here's the part you need:
Part number: 5303918287

Part number: 5303918287

Thank you so much!  Just to confirm, using the link you provided for the diode, when I enter my model number in the parts compatibility tool, it is saying it's not compatible.  But this is indeed the one I should order, correct?

Yes, that is correct - the compatibility lookup on APP isn't always the best it could be.
