Rhubarb Tau Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Manufacturer: Viking Type of Appliance: All-Fridge Model Number: VCRB5301RSS Have you validated the model number at an online parts site like Repair Clinic? (yes or no): Yes Have you watched the video on how to search for manuals and have you searched the Downloads section prior to posting this request? (yes or no): Yes I'm working on a system rebuild quote for this unit, and the parts list has a footnote for the Compressor advising, "Comments for Part Num. PM010620 gboltz@VikingRange.com on Aug 9, 2018 See TR-0101B-SP Bulletin." Not sure if this is important, possibly similar to Bulletin TR-0072B-SP instructing to change Inverter drive frequency, et al. My Model is VCRB5301RSS , which I wasn't able to find on any of the part sites, and only comes up on VikingRanges.com . I searched the site for VCRB5301RSS , VCRB530* , TR-0101B-SP , TR-0101* , and *0101* (surprisingly only one result, not the Bulletin). Any authorized Viking techs have access to it, or happen to recall if it covers anything critical? BTW, I've attached a screenshot of the Parts List note (just 'cause), as well as another note for the Deli Evaporator, just cause I got a chuckle out of it, a Parts Distributor including a negative email in their research.
bna12122 Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 This heat exchanger can be eliminated from the system. Drop the charge to 8.0 oz and you’ll be good. I will check out the bulletin for you when I’m at my desk tomorrow. The unit is still under the 12 year parts warranty. Compressor and coils should still be covered. 2
Team Samurai Son of Samurai Posted June 18, 2020 Team Samurai Posted June 18, 2020 @Rhubarb Tau In the meantime, these are the docs we have that apply to your model:
Rhubarb Tau Posted June 19, 2020 Author Posted June 19, 2020 Thanks @bna12122. This might be a moot point; sounds like the Cust. is going to decline the repair (but he hasn't yet). He bought the unit for $200 a few weeks ago. If you can put your hands on the bulletin, that would be great! If not, what do you mean by eliminating the HX from the system? This is the first Viking all-fridge that I've come across.
Team Samurai Son of Samurai Posted June 19, 2020 Team Samurai Posted June 19, 2020 Here's the bulletin -- thanks @bna12122!
Rhubarb Tau Posted June 21, 2020 Author Posted June 21, 2020 That's great, thanks so much @bna12122 and @Son of Samurai !
bna12122 Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 To remove the MS Heat Exchanger(Lower evpaorator) from the system cut the cap at the lower evaporator, remove the 3/16th return line to the upper evaporator and tie the cap tube into the evaporator. When you see it, it's pretty self explanatory. Evacuate the system, charge it with 8.0 oz and there ya go. No more issues with the lower evaporator. Why the compressor though? We never have any issues with them. Usually when they don't start its being caused by the iverter.
