Kenmore dishwasher 587.16252402 stops mid-cycle with water left inside

Helping a coworker out.  She has a Kenmore dishwasher model # 587.16252402 and it stops mid-cycle with water left inside and some blinking lights.  I googled and found a hit that took me here but the post is gone.

Here's the details:

My dishwasher is a Kenmore Quiet Guard Model 587.16252402

Problem: The dishwasher stops mid cycle with water left in bottom of dishwasher. There are two green lights that blink afterwards and remain blinking: hi temp and dry heat. They blink at the same time.

What I have tried:

1. I was able to get the green lights to stop blinking by pressing them a number of times, I can’t remember the order in which I did it. I bailed out the water and was able to start the dishwasher for another cycle. This is when I learned it stopped mid way.  Same thing: water not drained and hi temp and dry heat green lights flashing.

2. I disassembled the bottom part of the dishwasher to see if anything was stuck or caught in the bottom part. The spinning part that is to grind up any food looked really clean.

I generally put very rinsed dishes in the dishwasher and run a normal cycle with hi temp and dry heat.

So I'm thinking the dishwasher can't pump out and is giving an error.  So guessing the discharge pump is jammed or burnt out, the discharge hose is clogged, the relay on the control board is bad.  Am I  on  the right track?  I'm not seeing any hits for this problem.

TIA,
Dave
